MiraDry
MiraDry is an effective treatment option for patients who feel embarrassed from sweaty armpits and body odour.
Treatment is delivered through a handheld device that produces microwave energy to the underarm. This destroys the sweat glands permanently while also allowing the skin to remain cool.
Sweaty Hands
Sweaty hands can often make a person feel uncomfortable when shaking hands as well as becoming very anxious and self-consciousness with the condition.
Here at North Western Vascular, ETS (Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy Surgery) is offered as a permanent solution to sweaty hands. The procedure occurs under general anaesthesia. Two incisions are made in the underarm where the relevant nerve bodies or ganglia is removed allowing the hands to dry. Recovery time from this procedure is usually a week. Majority of patients who come in for sweaty hand treatment leave with dry hands.
Sweaty Feet
Sweaty feet or Plantar Hyperhidrosis is a condition that involves excess sweating of the feet. This condition can be incredibly embarrassing and frustrating for sufferers, as it can cause them to need to change socks multiple times a day and increase foot odour. The condition can also impede in the ability to play sport and can increase the risk of infection – in particular, fungal infection that affects the sole of the foot.
Sweaty feet can be treated using either a Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) or a Lumbar Sympathectomy, depending on the patient’s specific condition. In the case that the patient also experiences excessive sweating of the hands as well, the ETS procedure is generally recommended as it will correct sweaty hands (generally considered the more dominant concern) and in 60% of patients, they also notice the reduction of excessively sweaty feet. For patients who are only experiencing excessively sweaty feet, a Lumbar Sympathectomy will dry the feet.
Facial Blushing
If you experience excessive facial blushing and excessive sweating, you have an over-activity of nerves that cause the face to blush. You don’t have to put up with excessive facial blushing and sweating.
Dr Roger Bell at North Western Vascular offers ETS surgery to treat the complaint at its source and provide you with the relief you deserve.
Endoscopic Thoracic Smypathectomy Surgery
Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy Surgery (ETS) is a procedure to help those dealing with excessively sweaty hands or facial blushing. This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and the sympathetic nerves are ablated or destroyed to stop the excess sweating. The benefits of ETS for sweaty hands is—usually—permanent. For facial blushing, over 90% of patients will no longer blush after ETS.
Varicose Vein Surgery
The diagnosis of varicose veins can be made with simple examination of the leg.
A duplex ultrasound scan will show which valves or veins are involved, and will also help determine how best to deal with the varicose veins.
The Treatment options:
Treatment is determined by the extent to which the veins bother the patient. For relatively minor varicose veins with trivial venous reflux, injection sclerotherapy alone may be sufficient to control the veins.
